2 Navy SEAL Tips for Spiritual Success in ’14

Navy SEALs know a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t. If you are looking for progress, for spiritual success in 2014, get in on two tips SEALs learn early.

Tip 1: Humble Eagles

The American eagle holds his head high and proud on many U. S. military insignias.

Except one—the Trident worn by our Navy SEALs.

On the Trident, the eagle’s lowered head depicts humility. Interesting, huh? If anyone’s earned the right to strut his stuff, it’s a SEAL. Yet SEALs tend to be humble men. Why?

Tip 2: No Lone Rangers

Another thing key to SEAL success is teamwork, the buddy system. Lone Ranger SEALs don’t exist. They need each other and they know it, hence the humility.

Only, Tips 1 and 2 weren’t SEAL ideas. God thought of the them first:

‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ (1 Peter 5:5c NIV)

Grace I need, but humble teamwork proves a hard lesson. God and me—my spiritual swim buddy as the SEALs would say. Too often I forget He’s there or run ahead without Him.

Oh, and don’t forget the humility. My head bowed to His authority. His Spirit guiding me through the challenges of the day, though it’s easier (and faster) to ask forgiveness than permission. God, however, never forces my obedience. He allows me to choose.

And I’m learning. God offers a spiritual buddy system because He knows right choices come from time with Him. Lone Ranger Christians don’t exist. I need God and I know it.

Teamwork. Humility. Success. It works. Ask any SEAL.

Questions:

Do you and God pair up each day?

How is your neck—stiff or bowed?

If it is stiff, what or who are you fighting?

How can you move to a team mindset?

Choose three reminders to help you. (Examples: stickers, Bible verse in a visible spot, picture, jewelry, music)
