Cross Training
Blizzards, hurricanes, drought, forest fires, floods. Each season brings its own set of natural disasters. Our family lives in Tornado Alley. We are well acquainted with wind and what it can do when it gets out of control. Four of the disciples, Peter, Andrew, James, and John grew up by the Sea of Galilee and, as fishermen, they knew the ins and outs of wind and water. Look at this passage from Matthew 8: 23-27 (NIV):
“Then he (Jesus) got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’
He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!’’
The disciples were amazed. They had never seen anything like it. Jesus took control of that which, to us, is uncontrollable. He can do this with other things too:
Weather Sickness Teachers Classmates Bullies Friends Select teams
Our parents’ jobs Our parents’ marriage Siblings Step-siblings
God is sovereign. He rules over everything. When things are out of your control, go to Him. You’ll be amazed.
