Cross Training

Take a look at the verses below:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”       2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.”                                                                  Ephesians 5:8-10

If you have a relationship with Christ, you are a new creation. “The old has gone, the new has come.” Eustace, in our novel, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C. S. Lewis, experiences this in our reading this week. Yet, if you are like me, some days the old comes sneaking back and I have a battle of choices. Take a look at the Ephesians verses. You are changed. The darkness is gone and there is the Light of the world in you. The rest of your body, however, needs a makeover. You have to retrain the mind and body to live up to your new heart. Sometimes when I’m training for a race, I use a heart monitor. It tells me my heart rate while I’m running. Often, if I am running hard or uphill, my legs tell me it’s too much and I need to slow down, but when I check my heart monitor, my heart says everything is cool and to keep going. I have to train my legs and lungs to what my heart says is true. Spiritually, it’s the same way. As your heart seeks to please the Lord, your mind and body will complain.”I don’t feel like reading my Bible.” “I’m too tired to pray.” “Right choices are hard.” Remember, your heart is on track. It has been made new. Tell everything else to get in line with your heart and keep going.

Fitness Tip: Your heart rate is the number of beats per minute. Check your heart rate by counting your pulse for 10 seconds and multiply by 6. For kids, the average resting heart rate is between 70-100. For more on your heart rate, go to www.livestrong.com.
