Cross Training

We have friends and family who own land out in the country. When we visit, we pile into the pickup truck and drive around; usually, we feed cattle or go out to an old farmhouse. When you are driving out in the country, there are gates leading from one pasture or property to the next. You pull up to the gate, stop the truck, someone gets out and opens the gate, you drive through, someone closes the gate, hops back in the truck, and then you continue on your way. The gate marks one piece of land from another. It keeps some things in, like cattle, and some things out, like trespassers. Take a look at John 10:7-10 (NIV):

Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth. I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Look at Jesus’ purpose as the Gate:

“whoever enters through Me will be saved”

“he will come in and go out, and find pasture”

“they may have life and have it to the full”

Everything you need is available when you go through the Gate: salvation, freedom, provisions, life to the full. If you have looked in other places for meaning and purpose, give this Gate a try. He’s worth stopping the pickup.
