Cross Training

Zuno is my white labrador. When Zuno and I run together, I put Zuno on a leash. I do this for several reasons:

1)      His safety—I want to keep him away from danger, like cars or other dogs.

2)      Leadership—I want him to go where I go, not after a rabbit or squirrel.

Most of the time, Zuno wants to go where I’m going, but sometimes he gets distracted. Something takes his attention off me and he changes direction. I know he still loves me, but he gets excited and follows his feelings. The leash reminds him that we aren’t chasing rabbits today and helps him to focus on me. Look at Philippians 2:12, 13 (NIV):

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

When you become a Christ-follower, God places His Holy Spirit in you to help you “will and to act according to his good purpose.” Sometimes our feelings or even our lack of feelings try to pull us in a different direction. We choose whether we go and chase a rabbit or stay with God on His path for us. Ask God to help you to recognize His voice clearly and to choose His path. You may fight some strong feelings or you may not feel like doing anything, but you make the choice. God wants you to make the call, not your feelings, and He is there to help.

Fitness Tip: Your Top Ten Food for the day is berries. Any color or kind will do. They are off the charts with anti-oxidents and are just plain fun to eat.
